S.E.A.S. Mission
Students Extending Arms to Students (S.E.A.S.)
Mission Statement: To alert youth nationwide about the continuing plight of young people affected by Hurricane Katrina, and to inspire them to take action to create a positive and lasting change in the Gulf region, as well as other regions throughout the world.
About Us: We are a group of High School Students from different towns and states throughout the United States of America. Over the past summer we were given the chance, as part of the Putney Student Travels Program, Global Awareness in Action, to spend three weeks in the Gulf Coast of the United States. We stayed in areas which are still recuperating from the trauma of Hurricane Katrina, the devastating category 5 hurricane that devastated a large portion of the Mississippi Coast, and other territories in Louisiana including New Orleans.
In the costal region, we spent time working in local schools, rebuilding, gutting houses, cleaning debris, and speaking to local individuals. After the summer in Mississippi and Louisiana we decided that we wanted to do something beyond our physical service to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. We are all teenagers striving to lend a hand in the recovery in the Gulf Coast. Our goal is to facilitate and participate in actions involving teenagers helping teenagers around the world.
